Recently, many schools in cities such as Beijing and Wuhan have cancelled thewomen’s 3000-meter race and the men’s 5000-meter race at their sports meets dueto students’ poor physical condition. It aroused heated debate about youngstudents’ health.
that schools should not give up long-distance running because it canbuild up our bodies, keep us away from illness and relax our brain. We canlearn better after exercise. More importantly, it helps develop a strong willand endurance.
But othershold opposite opinions. They believe that long-distance running is not good forus. It makes us tired and excited so that we can’t calm down to study afterexercise and we may get hurt in it. Besides, long-distance running is a bigchallenge to our physical conditions.
For my part, it is unwise to call off long-distance races. So long as we are careful enough, the races can do us nothing but good. 听力

The experiment needs fifty people dividedinto two groups of the same size. Group A is to take part in a seven-weekexercise, while Group B is not allowed to do any exercise during these sevenweeks. On the day before the experiment begins, all the fifty men take part ina step-test. They are told to step up and down on a 16-inch-long bench at 30steps a minute for five minutes. After the test each man’s pulse is taken andrecorded. Then during the seven weeks men in Group A ride a sort of bikelikeexercise machine for 15 minutes a day. During the first day they are asked toride very slowly. For the next three days, they are permitted to ride a bitmore quickly. And the speed of riding is increased every few days until the endof the experiment, when both Group A and Group B members are given thestep-test again and the pulse is taken again, too.
